Lenovo Flex 5 1470 Review – A Budget Friendly Convertible Laptop

Posted on

The Lenovo Flex 5 is an affordable 2 in 1 machine that might interest you to take look. It has potential to be your main system as it features of many numerous things that will support your productivity much easier. They still keep their low price while Lenovo making some performance upgrade to improve its performance sector. Last year, we got a Intel I 7th generation and now as return it’s replaced with better version of Intel I5 8250U. This chipset then later combined with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. We are all having those specs for only under 700 dollars and it’s a huge deal for everyone.

The only thing that personally needs improvement here is the design. Yeah, the thing is not slightly changed even for little bit. If there is nothing wrong with it, why should we bother on changing it? I think it’s pretty normal for many companies to save their budget. I guess its worth for us to take look into it further and see how it works on us. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.

Design Impression

The system features of two tones simplistic look that looks pretty impressive for the price. There is not much detail to find here and what we find here is only the company logo that placed at left of the lid. When you open the lid, you soon notice an aluminum deck with an aluminum deck at the center of it. The 14 inch display put here is surrounded by quite thin bezel and what we get is pretty much content without getting bored by thick bezel. With all stuff on the inside, the device for some reasons feels quite heavy. The system is weight for 5.7 pounds with dimension at 13 x 11 x 2 inches. It should fit any small bag, but would take your time on getting used.

The convertible design is featured and you have chance to transform it into multiple modes included of tent mode for presentation, the tablet mode for browsing to the internet, and the stand mode itself for working. Swapping it into three different modes feel easy as it does not require much power to do. The port connectivity itself is complete here with standard and modern ports work together. The USB 3.0 ports useful for plugging your accessories while the USB-C is good for transferring data.

Display And Input Devices

Lenovo Flex 5 2 The 14 inch panel is equipped with 1080p resolution. I found that the display looks bland and darker than most of its competitors. Streaming some 1080p movies would show it color accuracy and brightness and I think the result is pretty average here. It turns out it produces only around 74 percent of SRGB color which is average than standard right now. I guess this is the way for Lenovo to save their budget as they put their eyes on the hardware. At least, playing games and streaming movies are not big problem here.

As for input devices, I will give them my big compliment for this case. The 1.3 mm key travel require 75 gram of punctuation force in order to type nicely. The keyboard is quite shallow, but still comfortable for typing on your daily usage. Moreover, the backlit support is back here and means typing on darker environment is entirely possible with no issue. The touchpad is also gives similar impression as it feels smooth and accurate on navigating through the system. The Windows 10 gesture is fully supported here with multiple gestures you are able to do here.

Graphic Performance

The Intel Core I7 8250U and 8GB RAM feel so satisfying here. No lag or stuttering on doing all of stuff and the users can just do anything they love here. The Coffee Lake series brings significant improvement over the performance as the number of cores are boosted to 4 and making it quad core for now. More cores mean more performance in term of multitasking work like video rendering and photo editing. Upgrading the memory should improve the performance, but the default setting itself is more than enough for daily usage. This specs would survive for at least three years old, so never worry to spend your money on upgrading it.

The Intel HD graphic performance is dependable for working, but not more intense activity like gaming. Testing some games show some bad result here and I do not recommend you to do it at all. Indie games are okay here, but not for AAA games. The only thing I love here is the battery life. The battery always gives me up to 10 hours of usage and 2 hours more than what I got last year. It has improvement over this case thanks to the brand new processor. This should be your consideration for taking it back home.
