HP Omen X 17 is basically the most powerful gaming machine to have by the company right now. This has just unleashed to the public and featuring top tier hardware on the inside like overclocked version of Core I7 processor, high refresh rate panel, and GTX 1080 which is considered as the most powerful mobile GPU available in the market right now. The performance is the biggest selling point here and of course it has high price tag on it. It costs you more than 2200 dollars for getting its entire features.
Well, getting of premium portable system is not something bad to have it as parts like processor and graphic card are not replaceable here. Buying more expensive device means less money you need to spend for upgrading or swapping it later. With the price that high, I think its worth for us to take peek into the inside and find out how amazing it is. That is what we are going to talk about it. We are going to talk about it further on this article. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.
The Omen X is getting as striking sleek design that built in from aluminum construction. The keyboard deck and back lid are constructed from metal while the front parts like screen bezel and underside are created from plastic. I think this is a great combination as making it all metal will add more weight into chassis as the current weight is already quite heavy. One worth mentioning thing here is the build quality. The lid itself could be warped into intentional position to our needs, nut not available to twisted into 5 to 6 off from its center as doing this case might break its hinge system. They do well job on preventing users to break it.
The overall quality is impressive here as all of parts finish and fit so excellent. The gap between the chassis is tight and the body does not creak or cracking no matter how much pressure you put on it. My biggest issue here is located on its weight. The system is weight for around 4.9 KG and not something that recommended carrying around on your back. Carrying it on my bag really hurts my back after doing it like 30 minutes. I guess it’s impossible now for the companies to put of all of stuff in much slimmer chassis.
Input Devices And Port Connectivity
The most beloved features to have here is the mechanical keyboard. With its big and wide chassis, they manage to put of 2.5 mm travel key and offering solid and smooth experience on typing. Putting my palm rests is so comfortable here and I can just stay it for many hours on gaming. The keys are tactile and excellent, but it gives quite loud noise as soon as you put your finger on it. The sounds might be annoying if you have your friend playing the same game near of you. The overall experience is top notch here.
There are plenty of connectivity ports available on its both of left and right sides. There are three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, mini display port, and type-C port that fully supported Thunderbolt 3 port for connecting it to bigger monitor up to 4K display. Connecting it to 4K monitor looks impressive as everything is do detail when I was playing the Witcher 3. Do not be afraid of performance drop because GTX 1080 is more than capable of handling this case. We will talk more about its performance for later.
|HP Omen X 17||Main Specs|
|CPU||Intel Core I7-7820HK 2.9 GHZ|
|Graphics||NVIDIA GTX 1080|
|OS||Windows 10 Home|
|Memory||16GB DDR4 Memory|
|Storage||1TB HDD + 256GB SSD|
The performance is such a beast thanks to its CPU and GPU combinations. HP goes step further by placing of Intel I7 7820HK which is the overclock version of its little brother the I7 7700HQ. For most all of parts, the 7820HK is 5 percent faster than 7700HQ and should promise you better FPS on gaming. The result is not that different, but trust me it gives big differences on running many games. Moreover, Its unlocked processor could be overclocked with Omen Control Center when you need for more performance.
As for gaming test, every game should run at the highest setting up to 60 FPS here. The Witcher 3 is completely playable around 65 FPS at ultra-setting. Some not fully optimized games like PUBG and Mafia 3 even run 60 to 90 FPS all the time. The same thing goes to the VR gaming as the VR Chat run so smooth with only few framerate drops because of the internet issue. The performance is not an issue here and should be enough to replace your desktop machine.
There is a price for its high quality hardware. The Omen X has a high price for its top tier hardware, but those things are actually really worth as on gaming you do not have to adjust anything just want to make it run smoother. Just throw any game you want, and it would take it without any issue. Of course, never go with something far from your reach since it will be bad for your economic. There are lot of affordable choices like Omen 15 and even cheaper one like Aspire E 15 available for now. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration for you.
