Shut down the laptop and unplug the battery cable from laptop. Now remove the battery by sliding the lock to the opposite side. Proceed to next step to identify other causes of battery not charging.

Replace the battery back in the laptop. If nothing happens then replacing the faulty battery with a new one will be our last resort for resolving the charging problem.  But before that you must change your strategy and try to fix the issue using software tricks.

This method needs you to update your battery drivers. But before you proceed further, I recommend that you create a restore point in case you mess up with the Windows settings.

Now that you have created the restore point, navigate to This-PC or My-Computer on desktop and right click on it.

Click on Properties and navigate to Device Manager. Or alternatively, you can type devmgmt.msc in the run command window.

Under the batteries, right click on both the components one by one to update the driver software.

Sometimes choosing a wrong option in the Power and Sleep settings may cause the battery charging fault in your laptop. There are many settings like minimum battery level to shut down the system, a lid-close configuration that lead to sleep or shut-down and much more. If any of these settings are wrongly configured, it can lead to power-malfunction. To handle this, navigate to control panel>power options and restore default settings for the power plan you have chosen.

Malware can also show false battery percentage. So, you can install an updated, effective and reliable anti-malware software. Some of the best and free anti-malware software include Malwarebytes, Zemana anti-malware, and Hitman pro. Scan the system with your preferred malware protection software and re-check the battery charging.

If none of the software methods works, you need to replace the battery. You must note the model number of the laptop if you want to buy an original charger. But you need to be very careful while buying a compatible battery. You must note the voltage rating and capacity of the original battery as well for the right battery purchase.
